Three generations of sawdust and salt air.
No showroom upsell here — just a boatbuilder's eye for grain and water, a small steady crew, and straight answers from the first measure to the last sweep.
Nate Saulnier · Founder
It started with a tight joint and a fair fastener schedule.
Penobscot Flooring & Decks goes back to 2004, when Nate Saulnier left a Rockland boatyard — where he'd learned that a tight joint and a fair fastener schedule are everything — and started laying floors. The boatbuilder's eye for grain and water never left him.
Today he runs a small, steady crew out of Rockland that still does its own installs, still acclimates its own wood, and still gets called back by the same families a decade later for the next room. There's no showroom upsell here, just careful work and straight answers.
It's the kind of company where the person who measures your floor is the person who installs it — and the person who'll pick up the phone when you call back in ten years.
Who you'll actually be working with.
No day-labor subs, no rotating faces — the same hands from estimate to final walkthrough.

A small steady crew
Four craftsmen who do our own work. The same people frame your deck, set your tile, and sweep up before they leave — because our name's on it.
Old-fashioned craft, with the dust kept under control.
We mind your house
Dust containment, floor protection on the path in, furniture moved with care. You're living here — we work like we know it.
Honest material talk
We'll tell you when LVP is the smarter buy than hardwood, or when your old floors are worth saving. We sell solutions, not the priciest option.
Tight, level, lasting
Proper subfloor prep, the right underlayment, acclimated material. The boring fundamentals are exactly what keep a floor flat and a deck solid for decades.
Built for the coast
Salt air, freeze-thaw, and snow load are real here. We spec fasteners, framing, and finishes that hold up to a Penobscot Bay winter.
Let's measure your space.
Tell us what you're picturing — a refreshed floor, a brand-new deck, or both — and we'll bring the tape and the samples to you. Free, friendly, no pressure.
