Attorneys & Firm
A small Portland practice built around careful work, plain guidance, and long relationships with the Maine families it serves.
Margaret H. Longfellow
Founder and managing partner of Longfellow Law Group, with more than two decades advising Maine families.
Margaret founded the firm in 1998 with a clear conviction: that legal counsel should be rigorous and humane in equal measure. After earning her law degree at the University of Maine School of Law and practicing in larger firms, she chose to build a smaller practice on Pearl Street — one that could take a limited number of matters and give each the attention it deserves.
Her work centers on the moments that shape a family's future: a marriage beginning or ending, a home bought or sold, a plan made for those who come after. Clients describe her counsel as calm, candid, and easy to understand — and that is precisely how she intends it.

A deliberately small practice.
The firm keeps its caseload measured by design. When you call, you reach the people working on your matter — not a queue.
Direct attorney access
You work with the attorney handling your matter from the first conversation to the last. No hand-offs, no call center, no losing the thread of your case.
Plain, honest counsel
We translate the law into language you can act on, and we are candid about what is achievable. We do not promise outcomes — only diligence and our full attention.
Local knowledge
A career spent in Portland means familiarity with the local courts, the registries of deeds, and the communities the firm serves across Cumberland County.
Discretion throughout
The matters we handle are personal. Your information and your decisions are treated with the confidentiality they deserve, from first call to final signature.
