The Process
From the first conversation to a matter brought to a close — three steps, explained plainly, with no surprises along the way.
Working with a lawyer should never feel like a black box. Here is how an engagement typically unfolds. Every matter is different and timelines vary, but you will always know where things stand and what comes next.
Step OneConsultation
We begin with a confidential conversation about your situation and your goals — in person at our Pearl Street office or by phone. You tell us what brought you in; we listen, ask questions, and give you an honest read on where things stand and whether the matter is one we handle. There is no obligation to proceed beyond this conversation.
Step TwoStrategy
If we move forward together, we lay out your options in plain language and recommend a path. We agree on the scope of the work and the next steps, and we put the fee arrangement in writing before any work begins — whether that is a flat fee for a will or closing, or hourly billing for a matter that calls for it. You will understand the work and the likely timeline going in.
Step ThreeResolution
We carry the matter forward with steady, careful preparation — negotiating, drafting, closing, or filing with the appropriate court or registry as your case requires. We keep you informed at each stage, answer your questions as they arise, and work toward bringing the matter to an orderly close.
How to make the most of a consultation.
Bring the documents
If your matter involves a contract, a deed, a will, or a court order, bring or mention it. Even a rough summary helps us give you a clearer read.
Note your timeline
If there is a closing date, a court deadline, or a family event on the horizon, tell us early so we can advise you with it in mind.
Ask your questions
No question is too basic. The consultation exists so that you leave understanding your options — write yours down beforehand if it helps.
Share in confidence
Conversations about your matter are kept confidential. Please share only general information until we have formally agreed to work together.
